A cold-finished round bar is hot-rolled steel processed via drawing, polishing, or grinding and finished off with a coating to cool it down. This extra step leaves a bright, smooth surface finish that gains strength and tighter tolerances. Conventional applications for round bars include construction and medical equipment.
The 1018 round bar has good weldability, formability, and fair machinability. This low-carbon steel is suitable for applications that do not require high-carbon strength.
The 1117 round bar has improved machinability compared to 1018 carbon steel. It can be hot-rolled or cold-finished. 1117 can withstand some deforming without cracking depending on the machine.
